The United Way of Central Maryland has received $45,000 worth of donations from 360 donors since it established a relief fund for Ellicott City on Monday. Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman asked the United Way to set up the fund after flooding Saturday night killed two people and swept through the streets of the historic town, damaging dozens of homes and businesses. The Greater Baltimore Urban League opened on Tuesday a new center in Seton Hill, a project aimed at providing minorities with entrepreneurial skills through seminars, workshops and mentoring. For more than a century the National Urban League has been advocating for civil rights all across the country and holding an annual conference to bring the national organization together with local affiliates. The 106th annual convention kicks off Wednesday here in Baltimore, the first time the city will host the conference.
