John Paterakis Sr. , a Baltimore native who created the largest privately owned bakery, H&S Bakery, in the nation and turned a dilapidated swath of land near Fells Point into the swanky Harbor East neighborhood, died Sunday at the age of 87. Paterakis died at Johns Hopkins Hospital from complications of myelodysplasia, a bone marrow disorder. A private service will be held on Thursday. As if the city wasn’t already busy enough with Fleet Week, hundreds more were brought to downtown Saturday morning for the 16th annual Baltimore Running Festival. Dozens of runners lined up at starting points around the city for various events, while their supporters lined the streets to cheer them on. Lt. Patrick Hearn, a Naval officer, won the men’s marathon with a time of 2 hours, 26 minutes and 19 seconds. Hearn is a Sykesville Native and went to Glenelg High School.
