The owner of a long-vacant lot at 300 E. Pratt St. is quietly shopping for a new developer to build a mixed-use tower at the prime Inner Harbor site. Chicago-based InterPark Holdings tapped Comstock Partners in 2014 as a development partner on the project. Reston, Va.-based Comstock had planned a 48-story apartment and hotel tower on the 1-acre site, the former home of the News-American building directly across from the Inner Harbor. But Charles Murphy, a senior vice president at InterPark, said…

Building out the former McCabe’s space in Hampden was supposed to be easy for the team of Charlie and Lori Gjerde and Carrie Podles, Lori’s sister and Charlie’s longtime business partner. What was anticipated to be a quick remodeling effort after the team took over the location at 3845 Falls Road last summer turned into a lot more work than they expected. McCabe’s closed following a December 2014 fire that destroyed portions of the interior. The age of the building hasn’t helped matters either. The…

Tribune Publishing Board Chairman Michael Ferro late Wednesday essentially told Gannett to buzz off — at least for now. The rejection of Gannett’s all-cash bid of $815 million for the company, revealed as Tribune Publishing (NYSE; TPUB) released its first quarter 2016 earnings report, was not entirely a surprise. But buried in the wording of Ferro’s response to Gannett was the suggestion the Tribune Publishing board of directors may simply want a higher bid before it gets down to serious negotiations. In…

Maryland casinos had their best month ever in April, as the total monthly combined revenues from the state’s five casinos reached $103.9 million. The record-breaking month beat out July 2015, which saw the casinos bring in $98.95 million in revenue. The mark shows a year-over-year increase from April 2015 of 16.8 percent for all five casinos, or more than $14.9 million, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Agency announced Thursday. All five casinos showed growth year-over-year, but Horseshoe Casino…

Updated plans for a new urban park on the water’s edge outside the National Aquarium were debated again Thursday morning in front of the city’s design panel. And members of the panel asked to see more. The second round of plans presented to the Urban Design and Architecture Review Panel by a team of architects from Ayers Saint Gross showed a new outdoor campus that invites patrons off of Pratt Street and leads them to a narrow wonderland of a salt marsh, coastal plain, oyster reef and highland…
