As Tradepoint Atlantic continues its search for tenants for the 3,100-acre Sparrows Point redevelopment, one concern has stuck with prospective companies. How will the site’s public transit-dependent workforce get to their jobs without a reliable connection from the city? That is why the company is supporting a bill to repeal a farebox recovery mandate that requires the Maryland Transit Administration to recover at least 35 percent of the operating costs for bus, light rail, Metro subway and other…

Strong buyer demand and the prospect of looser federal regulations since Donald Trump’s election to the White House have spurred stock prices for the nation’s largest publicly traded homebuilders. The post-election rally added roughly $6 billion in market value to the sector’s biggest stocks between Nov. 9 and Jan. 18, and it promises to fuel homebuilders’ already concentrated — and expanding — investment in much of the American South and Southwest. An American City Business Journal analysis…

Hotel giant Marriott International Inc.’s decision to announce its pick for a new downtown Bethesda headquarters on Friday might have seemed ill-timed to seasoned real estate experts — and not just because it coincided with the presidential inauguration. As President-elect Donald Trump was preparing to take the oath of office, Marriott disclosed it had signed a letter of intent with the Bernstein Cos. and Boston Properties Inc. for a new corporate home and flagship hotel at a roughly 2-acre site…

Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank was one of several big-name CEOs to meet with President Donald Trump on Monday about the future of manufacturing in the U.S. In a meeting with 10 global manufacturers based in the U.S., the new president pledged to cut taxes for the middle class and for companies, and decrease the number of regulations that businesses have to navigate. “We are going to be cutting regulation massively,” Trump said in the meeting, adding that there will still be regulations that are “just…

Baltimore County Councilman David Marks knows Towson is a great place to live, work and play. But up until a few years ago, not very many other people realized that. Marks said there had been “a sense that [Towson] never lived up to its potential.” Today, the college town is preparing for a new era, completely with massive mixed-use developments, an expansion of Towson University and the revitalization of old buildings that sat vacant for years. In this week’s episode of the BaltBizCast, you'll…

Gov. Larry Hogan has included $5.5 million in his 2018 budget toward the $40 million redevelopment of Lexington Market. It was the second financing nod toward the project in a week. Kirby Fowler, who heads the board of the Baltimore Public Markets Corp. ., said last week the quasi-public agency that runs the city markets had made a formal request to Hogan for a $10 million bond issuance for the project. Fowler said the redevelopment of the historic downtown market would be funded through a public…

Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States on Friday. It’s a day few expected during the tumultuous run-up to the election. And we don’t know much of what to expect when he steps into office — just the way Trump likes it. But the pomp of inauguration and the expectation of sizable protests mean big business for Greater Washington. The region could see a $1 billion bump with the festivities and demonstrations, with visitors spending their money on hotels and Airbnb…
