Baltimore’s Board of Finance gave a “concept approval” for a $535 million request for tax increment financing by Sagamore Development Co. to pay for a portion of infrastructure at its planned 266-acre Port Covington development. The board voted Monday afternoon at City Hall following a presentation on a 534-page TIF application and analysis that lasted about 45 minutes and included no public input. The Y in Central Maryland is purchasing Big Vanilla Athletic Club in Pasadena, three years after buying the fitness center’s other location in Arnold. The Pasadena location, located at 26 Magothy Beach Road, will go through a 30-day transition period. At the end of that period on May 23, the club will be called the Y in Pasadena, and the Y will take over full ownership and management. This summer, however, a franchise with nearly 700 locations in the U.S. joins the fray. Local restauranteur David Olinde is set to open a Smoothie King location at 1716 Thames St. in mid-June.
