Maryland regulators are calling for the planned Prince George’s County Regional Medical Center to be scaled back by at least $100 million to win state approval. The cost cuts were among a number of changes that Maryland Health Care Commissioner Robert Moffit called for in a letter regarding the hospital’s certificate of need application, filed jointly by Dimensions Healthcare System and the University of Maryland Medical System. More than 814,000 Maryland residents are expected to travel for Memorial Day, the most for the holiday weekend since 2005. The estimate reflects a 1.6 percent increase over last Memorial Day weekend, according to data released Wednesday by AAA Mid-Atlantic. Weis’ footprint in Greater Baltimore is continuing to grow. The Sunbury, Pa.–based grocery chain announced Tuesday it’s buying five Mars grocery stores in Baltimore County, including two in Dundalk, and locations in Essex, Arbutus and Carney. Weis (NYSE: WMK) intends to complete the purchases in July. Once the purchases are completed, Weis will operate nine stores in Baltimore County.
