Local nonprofit organizations say they are not opposed to a minimum wage increase in Baltimore. But if government funding for nonprofits does not also increase, they worry they may have to cut services or pull out of the city. There are 3,230 nonprofits in Baltimore City employing about 90,000 people and rely heavily on state and federal funding. With little monetary leeway, the organizations say they may not be able to handle an increase in wages for workers without help. Kathleen Durkin, executive…

A Columbia firm hopes a fresh funding round will help it bring electricity-generating coating for windows to market by 2017. SolarWindow Technologies Inc. said Thursday it received nearly $4.4 million from 28 investors, 15 of whom were already existing shareholders. The funds were raised through a private placement offering of common stock. The owners of 2 Hopkins Plaza, set to be revived with a mix of office space and apartments, are looking to bring retail and restaurants to an adjacent pavilion building. Located at 10 Hopkins Plaza, the 25,000-square-foot property is fully vacant and was last occupied by Kaiser Permanente. Berman Enterprises of Rockville acquired the site as part of its purchase of 2 Hopkins Plaza last fall. It took longer than expected, but Hooters at Harborplace will have a new home come August. The BBJ reported last summer that Hooters was moving from its longtime space on the second floor of the Light Street Pavilion to the first floor of the same building. An exact space wasn’t announced at that time, but the company has filed to transfer its liquor license from the current location in suite 173 to suite 1445 on the main floor. The request will be heard during the June 30 Baltimore liquor board…

The United Kingdom voted Thursday to leave the European Union. It was a stunning decision. Prime Minister David Cameron, who led the campaign to remain in the bloc, said he will step down so the country can have a leader committed to carry out the will of the people. Scotland and Northern Ireland, members of the U.K. who supported remaining in the political-economic union with Europe, may move for independence. So what does that mean here across the Atlantic? Well, there’s a lot of uncertainty. “No…

Greater Baltimore’s largest public companies saw their stocks open lower on Friday in the wake of United Kingdom voters electing to withdraw from the European Union.
