A Hollywood celebrity last week bought one of the city’s most prestigious homes on the Inner Harbor. The opulent, five-story, 9,069-square-foot mansion of late developer Leroy Merritt at Pier Homes at HarborView changed hands last Friday in a cash deal for $6.25 million. The buyer is an unnamed “West Coast celebrity,” said Charlie Hatter of Monument Sotheby’s International Realty, which brokered the deal. Hatter declined further comment. The University System of Maryland’s endowment, with funds distributed among five system universities and 18 foundations and organizations, also fell by about 1.7 percent. Despite the drops, the schools were not hit as hard as other schools across the country in fiscal 2016. U.S. college endowment returns fell in total by an average of 1.9 percent in…

The trustee overseeing the liquidation of what had been Greater Washington’s largest office mover has asked a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge for permission to auction the Kane Co.’s trailers, trucks and other items, nearly two months after the Elkridge-based company abruptly filed for Chapter 7.
